James Isaak: Songs
Ballad of Byron Lee
(James Isaak)
Let me tell you a story about a boy named Byron Lee
he lived in Los Angeles he came from poverty
just a normal boy like all he had his hopes and dreams
and years to chase and track them down for he was just fourteen
he liked to laugh and play and ride his bicycle through the streets
but be back before darkness falls over a city under siege
Well he was riding out one day when a car drove up behind
a window rolled down a gunshot sounded round a clear blue sky
a bullet found his back and he fell down began to cry
and the car it stopped and two got out and walked to where he lie
he looked up through the pain and haze and saw two boys beside
not much older then himself their eyes were cold blue fire
and he begged and pleaded for his life
they shot him... nineteen times
Let me tell you a story about a boy named Byron Lee
he no longer laughs or plays or sees his family
days will pass and dreams will last but his will never be
one more forgotten victim in a city under siege
